MARCH IS FOOD ALLERGY AWARENESS MONTH
Food allergy is a growing public health issue that impacts almost every school across the United States. Nearly 6 million children in the U.S. – which equates to 1 in 13, or roughly 2 in every classroom – have a food allergy. Studies indicate that 16-18% of school-age children who have food allergies have had a reaction in school. In addition, in approximately 25% of the reactions that occur at school, the student had not yet been diagnosed with food allergy. Fitz/Leach/Brown Homeroom - Spring Student-led Conferences
Wednesday, March 18th 5-8pm Thursday, March 19th 1-4 & 5-8pm
This marking period, you will be invited to take a highly active role in your child’s education by participating in Student-Led Conferences. During Student-Led Conferences, students reflect upon their learning and discuss what they have accomplished and their plans for improvement. They take ownership of their work, accomplishments, and goals for the future.
This year we are scheduling 30-minute blocks, and there will be four families in a room at a time. Each family will have their own table and this will give everyone more time to conference with their child. Students will present their portfolios while the teachers circulate, answer questions, and visit with each family.
Student-Led Conferences have been very successful in many parts of the United States and Canada. Your child will need the skills learned in Student-Led conferences in the future. In March, your children will lead this conference, and tomorrow, they will lead a corporation, their own business adventure or a community organization!

The Blast is quickly approaching and we need your help! The families of each 5/6 team are donating a class basket for the silent auction portion of the Blast. The Fitz/Brown/Leach donation this year will be a "Road Trip" basket.
Please help our class out by sending in donations for our class basket. Donation ideas for the Road Trip theme are games for the car, a cooler with snacks, gas and restaurant gift cards, a portable DVD player, etc. If you would prefer to leave the shopping to the room parents, cash donations are always welcome. Any donations received will be used to purchase items for the class basket (maybe a destination hotel gift card!).
Please make a note of what your donation will be in the comments section of the SignUp Genius so that we can try to avoid duplicates. If you are making a monetary donation, please do not list the amount.
The proceeds from the Blast will benefit the school so please consider making a donation. Any amount or item will be appreciated! Please note that the deadline for donations is Friday, February 20th. Thank you!
